The Al Sadu Society of Kuwait (Sadu House), is a cultural house that exists to preserve, document, promote, and sustain the art of Sadu Weaving as well as encourage textile arts in Kuwait. In honor of Kuwait being chosen an Islamic Cultural Capital in 2016, the Sadu House collaborated with an international team on the creation of Weaving Stories, an interactive community based exhibition and outreach initiative. In collaboration with Sheikha Altaf Al Sabah, Honorary Patron of the Sadu House, local weavers, designers and art experts created this initiative to energize Kuwait’s weaving traditions as well as engaging the youth and the community in this evolving story. Two interactive artworks were designed, a large woven wall inspired by the Bedouin tent divider that holds over 50 contributions from 30 international makers. Additionally, an interactive loom was created to give an opportunity for the community to weave and leave their stories in the cloth.
This project branched from the Fulbright Specialist Grant awarded in 2015-2016.
