TBD, referencing the common phrase “to be determined,” is an experimental sculpture that explores the physical nature of participation. The work replies on an individual’s interpretation of the instructions, and their personal response to the materials, process, and outcome. At each venue, viewers are asked to help create the work. Rows of naturally dyed weft bundles become the medium that each person uses to transform the sculpture. Basic instructions for how to weave are given as well as an invitation to title the work when you are finished weaving. At each location, the surface and structure of the sculpture shifts and changes, creating a work that emphasizes process and collaboration. At each, it takes on a new life and new direction. It has yet to be completed.
